Hey there SandraC. I'll answer quickly today re: Watership Down. ( I did answer your inquiry the other day but it's long since sunk below the choppy surface of JWN. )
No, we never got round to reading it, but it was on my list. I've just put a "hold" on it from the library so will let you know after I've finished.
Best,
om
I will be there to as OTWO put it, to tell "the JW's in your life that there is still hope that you will come back".
I started this thread because a few days ago, I asked my wife about it and her immediate response was "NO"!
We both attended last year. I don't think she had fully thought it through when I asked her.
Here's how I see it. There are only two things in JW World that are bigger bird flips than not attending the Memorial:
1. Getting DFed on purpose, having no "repentance" and no plans on getting back in.
2. Doing #1 plus sending in a DA letter.
The longer I'm out of the JWs, the more I care about excessive lying. If I go to the Memorial, I can honestly say that I attended. If I don't attend, and am subsequently asked "How was your Memorial?" I will have to explain why I didn't go. Short of extreme medical problems, it's a bird flip, IMO.
As long as my parents are alive, I think I'll be a once a year KH attender.

i have just finished an article misquotes, deception and lies and would like your comments, proof reading, and any other examples that you think are important to add.
most of these already appear on jwfacts.com within specific articles, but it is more powerful seeing them included together.
there have also been a number of requests over the years for such a collection.
Very well done!
As an atheist, my eyes usually quickly scan past anything having to do with the Trinity. As a believing JW I was sick of arguing the Trinity and as an atheist, who cares what version of a deity believers pursue?
But WOW! Those cherry-picking, "let's throw in an ellipsis where it best suits our argument" Trinity misquotes are outrageous!
Thanks again.

i am not particularly interested in the wtbts and their current doings.
or doctrine, or debates about god/evolution.
i am more interested in people, especially ex-jws like me.
Mum: " I suggested Watership Down. Did you guys read it?"
Hey there SandraC! Nice to hear from you. I remember your recommendation well. Unfortunately, it's still on the "To Read" list. Now, thanks to you gentle reminder, much closer to the top.
Hortensia: After 24 hours, I wish I could retract my crude little tale. It's not my usual sort of humor. Hope I didn't offend too much.

hello to everyone :) i wanted to introduce myself as a newbie.
i was raised in and i am currently on active status due to most of my family being very much in, but i am so ready to be done and have felt that way for quite some time.
internally i know this is not the right religion without a doubt.
Welcome to the board ESD!
I remembered reading a thread about fading a long time ago by a poster named expatbrit.
So, I clicked in the "Search" window and typed in "Art of fading".
Voila!

Some of the info is probably dated by now, but it's a start.
Cheers,

Good to hear from you Hortensia!
I'm sorry that the airplane men weren't handsome, pleasant-smelling and charming. Maybe next time.
Quick Open Mind family update:
My teen-age, high-school student son recently got his first, part-time, non-temporary job ever! He'd been getting fairly discouraged after putting in apps all over the place for the last several months. It's a pretty tough job market for a teen with no experience.
Our daughter is doing well in college and is getting her feet wet in her secular field of interest.
Here's a little fairly crude story from our New Year's Eve party you may or may not appreciate:
My long-time DFed, 100% gay, older brother came to visit over the holidays. We went over to some friend's house ( a straight couple in their 40s ) to celebrate New Years. As midnight approached, the hubby starts grilling everyone for what their New Year's resolution was going to be. Hubby is a sales guy and I think he irritated my gay brother a little bit.
Anyway, hubby gets around to my brother and says: "So, OM's brother, what's your New Year's Resolution?"
OM's Brother: "I'm gonna try to get more pussy."
(Jaws drop all around.)
OM's Brother continues: "My cats died this year and I think it's time for a new one."

Hey there sooner, don't forget this:
Nurse 1: "Hey, do you know the difference between God and a Doctor?"
Nurse 2: "No. What?"
Nurse 1: "God doesn't think he's a Doctor."
Bada-boom.
